Creating Websites For Internet Marketing

It is true that the biggest challenge for an internet marketer is getting traffic to their websites. However, once this hurdle has been passed, the design and content of the site can still become an obstacle to making conversions. There are a few general rules for affiliate sites and blogs to optimize conversions.

Firstly, if you are reviewing a product, do not lie. Your review must be honest as most people will see through a blatant sales pitch. You might say things like, "The plus points are certainly..." and "The product suits someone who..." or even, "It would be better if it had xyz but for the price, it is still good value". It is much better to say, "The advice in this book is sound and it is definitely worth a look" than, "This is the best book ever written on the subject".

When talking about a product, always discuss the benefits. It is all too common, even on product owner creating websites, to discuss in great detail what a product does without spelling out the benefits. For example, "This food book contains many recipes for full meals less than 500 calories" would be better written as, "Lose weight quickly without feeling hungry or getting bored eating the same thing every day!" Keep it simple first and go into more detail later if necessary.

If your main aim is to collect emails and build a list, the same principles apply. Your sign-up box should be located in a prominent place on the page. Many people find that the top right of the page is effective. Make sure you list the great benefits of signing up to the list. Try to tantalize the user into submitting their email. Something like, "Learn one important secret that few people use....." can work well, as long as you can actually provide such information. Make sure that you change the design of the sign-up box so that it does not look too boring. The code for the box will come from an auto-responder, such as Weber. As a default, the submit button will have the text, "Submit". Change this to something more appealing, like, "Sign Me Up!" or "Instant Free Access".

Generating traffic is only part of the battle, but once you have traffic, you can experiment with sales copy. See how conversions improve with each change you make until the site is optimized.
